Four Things That Speed Up the Repair
The more the technician knows before arriving, the more likely the right part is already on the truck. None of this needs a tool or an open panel.
What it is doing
Blowing cold air, not starting at all, starting and stopping, a new noise. When it started and whether anything changed, such as a new thermostat or a storm.
The blink code
Modern furnaces flash an error code on an LED you can see through the sight glass in the blower door. Count the blinks; the chart is on the inside of the door.
Age and make
The rating plate inside the door gives the model and serial number, which usually tell the age. A photo of the plate saves time on parts.
The safe checks
Thermostat mode and batteries, the furnace switch and breaker, the filter, and the two white PVC pipes outside clear of snow and frost. Look, don't open anything.
